Resilience is Built in the Struggle

For years I believed injuries had taken deadlifts out of my life for good. Doctors told me I should quit. Chronic pain became a constant in my life, and the frustration of setbacks, the fear of reinjury and the weight of doubt felt heavier than any trap bar ever could.

But I chose to show up anyway. Consistency became my mantra. Through years of modifying exercises I not only rebuilt my strength but also learned so much about how to train smarter. I discovered new ways to build strength, explored different training processes, took a dive into how neurology impacts our expression of movement and used these lessons to become a better coach.

One thing I've noticed in athletes is the tendency to give up when they don't meet their expectations of success right away. Use the setbacks as motivation, not as a excuse to give up. Usain Bolt said, "I trained 4 years to run 9 seconds and people give up when they don't see results in 2 months."

While I believe we need to have a passions for the things we do, a litle resilience goes a long way. Allowing yourself to grow and develop can be a life-changing experience. We don't always have to be the best one right away (or ever). We can be patient enought to let the process unfold. This is how we build resilience.

Sports psychology teaches us that mindset is the foundation of performance. It's not just about physical strength but mental resilience-the ability to believe in your future potential even when the present feels uncertain.

This journey reminded me that success isn't about bounding back overnight. It's about showing up (in the right way) every day, trusting the process, and celebrating the small victories along the way.

To anyone feeling like the road back is impossible: It's not. Start where you are. Stay consistent. And don't let fear hold you back from what's possible.
