I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful vocal teacher who decided to take the DISC profile to see how it could help her grow in the performing arts environment. Her goal? To uncover strategies for improving her teaching and performance while better understanding herself and her students on a deeper level.
Here's what she discovered (in her own words).
Enhanced Communication - "I may have a bit of control streak in me. After taking this assessment it felt like aweight had been lifted from my mind. I realized I didn’t have to have everything in a certain order. Just in a week, I noticed a relaxation in my lessons and my students seemed to feel that relaxation and we actually accomplished more. I am asking them more, what they would like to accomplish. I’m paying more attention to the things that they are doing correctly. I thought I was already doing this, I am just more aware. I’m finding that I’m less worried and concerned in lessons."
Increased Self-Awareness and Confidence- "I also found out other things about myself in the assessment. I’m a worrier, and I have felt myself starting to let that go. The fact that I always have something to present to my students to help them out is enough. The fact that I enjoy learning and sharing what I learn is enough. I don’t have to worry about how they will receive that information. I feel I have more confidence now. You would think it would be the opposite. I was afraid to find my weakness, but instead it has encouraged me and relaxed me. I feel an openess that wasn’t there before. I recommend this profile to any who wishes to improve relationships.
Her experience shows how DISC behavioral isn't just for athletes or businesses-it's a powerful tool for anyone who wants to grown and perform at their best.
